Over the past 30 years, Scholarship Management Services (SMS) has become the nation’s largest administrator of education assistance programs, including scholarship, tuition assistance and education loan programs.

In 1976, Scholarship America® was approached by one of its corporate sponsors and asked to help structure and administer its children of employees scholarship program.

The program was a success, and demand for our services quickly increased. In order to handle the scholarship management needs of other corporations, Scholarship America formed a division called Scholarship Management Services.

By 1986, only 10 years after partnering with its first client, SMS had over 185 clients and distributed over $8.7 million in scholarship dollars; 10 years later, we had grown to nearly 600 clients.

Today, SMS administers more than 1,100 scholarship programs for corporations, individuals and foundations. These clients include 122 Fortune 500 companies, 37 Fortune 100 companies—and our very first client. SMS has distributed over one billion dollars to more than one million students.
